'Dogs Have Their Day But Not By Much, 9-5
(Feb. 16) -- Gateway lost a tough fought battle to the Division 1 (Gators are in Division 2) Bowie Bulldogs of Austin. Four Gateway offensive players had points in the game and six of the seven had shots on goal "meaning that they put the ball effectively towards the goalie who had to make a few great saves," reported Head Coach Noel Breger. Pride stickers (awarded by the officials) were given to August Stroh (above) and Gideon Garcia for their "over the top efforts."
Eagles Claim District Title With Win Over Gators
(Feb. 14) -- Sporting a one-loss district record, the Johnson City Eagles came to town and convincingly put the hurt on a very young Gateway team, 98-64, in the Gators' last game of the 2016-17 season. The Eagles will represent District 25-3A as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming UIL playoffs. In defeat, sophomore Ethan Miller (in photo) was the night's leading scorer with 32 points. In other games, the 9th Grade team won while the JV lost a close contest.

Seniors Recognized in The Swamp
Dylan McCord, Gateway's lone senior basketball player was recognized during a pre-game ceremony Tuesday night. He participated for three years in the Gator program and has been accepted into Texas A&M University's Mechanical Engineering program. Also, cheer team members Baylee Floyd and Devyn Henderson made their final appearances on the home court.
Art Students Excel at V.A.S.E.
Madeline (Minnie) Rogers and her sculpture "King of Circles" was selected to compete at the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event competition, a first for the Gateway art department. She is only one of 118 participants to advance to State out of about 4,000 regional entries. Out of 30 works of art submitted by 25 Gateway art students, 26 artworks received the highest score possible. Gateway art instructor is Jordan McDowell.
Gators Fly Past 'Bees, 4-0
(Feb. 10) -- A dominating defensive performance and two goals each from Aidan Anderson (#7) and Juliane Villatoro allowed the girls varsity soccer team to defeat Academy in a key district match Friday night. The win puts the Gators in the thick of playoff contention near the midway point of the district schedule. Next action is at Burnet on Friday, February 17th at 6pm.
Gateway Stars Earn Accolades in New Braunfels
The Stars represented Gateway with class and style this weekend at the Hill Country Showcase at Canyon HS. They competed in 17 dances and brought home a variety of awards.
Middle School Stars received Best in Class for Contemporary and Novelty, 1st Runner up for Best in Class for Hip Hop. Team Super Sweepstakes, which means they received a 90 or above on all routines and were 1st Runner up for Grand Champion of the Middle School Teams!!!
Varsity Stars received Best in Class for Contemporary, Novelty, Hip Hop, and Jazz. They also received judges awards for Outstanding Technique, Outstanding Precision, and Outstanding Performance Quality. They too received Team Super Sweepstakes AND were Grand Champions. They were also awarded Academic Excellence for having the highest GPA of the competition.
