High School at Gateway College Preparatory School

At the Core: Highly Qualified, Invested Teachers:
The backbone of any school is its teachers. Gateway teachers (at all levels) are chosen for their passion, drive, and commitment to not only teaching academic content but to the development of the whole child. Prospective teachers go through a thorough screening and interview process which includes guided interactions with current staff and students. While all teachers hired must be highly qualified (according to state and federal guidelines), Gateway is also committed to attracting, developing, and retaining certified teachers that have an entrepreneurial spirit. We are proud of the diverse backgrounds and experiences that our teaching staff brings to our school.  Our high school teachers are not only subject matter experts, but are skilled at making content engaging and relevant in their instructional delivery.

The Focus of our Classes:

High school courses are taught at the pre-AP and AP level at Gateway. Pre-AP is a philosophy grounded on the premise that all students deserve to be exposed to rigorous, relevant content in order to develop higher order, critical thinking skills. Students are not just presented with content but with tools to promote success in their post-secondary careers. It is important to note that pre-AP does not simply mean “more work.” After the completion of pre-AP courses, students will take AP classes in core and elective areas in order to fulfill the requirements of either the Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Graduation Plans or the new HB 5 Distinguished Level of Achievement. Students that score well on AP exams may earn college credit.

Specific Courses:
Curricula in ALL areas (core and enrichment) will be developed by teachers in accordance with the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). Gateway strongly believes that teachers should develop their curricula with creativity and relevance in mind.

In addition to core and academically focused elective courses, students will have many opportunities in fine arts, athletics, foreign languages, and academic electives.

A Longer, More Enriching, and More Engaging School Day

Gateway strives to be responsive to the needs of our families, and is proud to say that we will have families with students in elementary, middle, and high school. For this reason, we are aligning our start and end times so that transportation and other logistics are easier for parents. The school day will run from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. However, students can be dropped off as early as 7:45 AM. Whenever students are on campus, they will be supervised by adult staff members and screened volunteers who must pass criminal background checks. Students may bring their own lunch, if desired, or purchase lunch from our on-site cafeteria.

Time before school and after school may also include participation in tutoring, clubs, sports, and other activities designed to enhance the overall development of students.

It is important to note that many UIL athletic, fine arts, and academic programs may require participants to practice before and/or after school.

 Why Gateway?

Gateway provides a small, intimate learning environment with ample (and growing) enrichment opportunities for students of all ages. Our goal is to prepare students for the rigors of 4 year college, while offering students an engaging, hands-on education. Due to our small size, the level of articulation and cooperation amongst our staff is higher than that in a traditional school district. Not only can teachers cooperatively plan and create courses and curricula, but courses and skills can be aligned from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

By nurturing students from an early age, and working cooperatively with parents, our students will be ready for the challenges that await them as adults as they are taught to enjoy learning and are able to help create a positive school culture.

We encourage you to contact us with further questions, and welcome you to visit our campus.
